Special Features

Legacy Land Trust's largest preserve (with approximately 2,000 acres), serves as an important flood zone, protecting areas both upstream and downstream. In addition to providing flood protection, this large tract contains a great amount of tree/shrub diversity on the site, with more than 40 different native tree species. There are some natural sloughs on the tract that are rather unique with a high density of red maple and laurel oak swampy areas which, while native to South East Texas, because of logging and land use changes, are becoming rare in the Houston region.
